Movement

/ˈmuːvm(ə)nt/

“The act or process of moving people or things from one place or position to another”

Sébastien Foucan is one of the pioneers of ‘Parkour.’ I approached Sébastien about capturing how he moved. I was amazed by how he and his friend David Belle had created a new sport. We studied him for the first two shoots with film and stills, influenced by Eadweard Muybridge's work, who pioneered motion in photography over 100 years earlier.

Eadweard Muybridge had been a significant influence on Francis Bacon's figurative work. Bacon would use Muybridge's work as a reference to work from.

This would influence my third shoot, as I am interested in a more extended period of the shutter's opening and what happens during this time. The abstraction of the image is something that will always captivate me. There is less control. Creating an atmosphere and area to work in as a parameter and leaving time and movement to create different forms.
